ABOUT THE FARM
Nestled in the verdant hills of Chikkamagaluru, Udayagiri Coffee Estates tells a story that stretches back to 1925. This isn't just a farm; it's a family's enduring passion for coffee, passed down through generations.
The estate, located in Hosapura village, was established by the family of Kalasaiah and is now nurtured by his son, Mr. Pratheek, a young and dedicated coffee grower. Perched at an altitude of approximately 4000 feet, Udayagiri benefits from the ideal conditions of the Western Ghats, a region known for its exceptional coffee-growing potential.
What sets Udayagiri apart is its commitment to harmonious coexistence with nature. The coffee plants thrive amidst a diverse ecosystem of shade trees, including orange, fig, jackfruit, white teak, silver oak, rose oak, and various jungle woods. These trees not only provide vital shade, crucial for the quality of the coffee, but also enrich the soil with natural manure, reducing the reliance on chemical fertilizers.
This dedication to sustainability isn't just a practice; it's a deeply ingrained philosophy. By fostering biodiversity and minimizing external inputs, Udayagiri creates an environment where coffee flourishes naturally, resulting in beans with distinct character and flavor. It's a testament to the family's deep understanding of the land and their unwavering respect for its delicate balance.
While the farm's history is rich, Udayagiri embraces innovation. In 2010, they introduced new generation Arabica varieties like Chandragiri and Selection 795, adding to their existing plantations and ensuring a continued commitment to quality and variety.
Choosing coffee from Udayagiri Estates is more than just indulging in a flavorful brew. It's supporting a family dedicated to sustainable farming practices, preserving the biodiversity of the Western Ghats, and crafting exceptional coffee in harmony with nature. With every cup, you're experiencing a legacy of passion, tradition, and a deep-rooted respect for the land.
